WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE YOUTH DEPARTMENT?
The concept is simple and the rewards are priceless. Read a book—any book—to your newborn, infant, or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (repeat readings count) before your child starts kindergarten. It is not as daunting as you might think! If you read just 1 book a day, you will have read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start school at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think!
Fill out a registration form at the library, and receive your first reading log to get started. Once you have read 100 books and filled up the first log, bring it back to the library for a prize and your next reading log. Once you have read 1,000 books, your child will receive a certificate of completion, a gift from the library, and have his or her picture put up on the 1000 Books B4K wall!
