1.     CALL TO ORDER

President Jon Littlefield called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. in the Myrtlewood Room. Board members present were Joyce Day, Larry Plews, and Rondi Potter. Marie Benton was present representing the Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library. Barbara Butler, Linda Farr, and Bob More as well as Joyce Day, Jon Littlefield, and Larry Plews were present representing the Coos Bay Public Library Foundation. Staff members present were Ellen Thompson, and Carol Ventgen. Consultant Roi Crouch was present.

2.    WORKSESSION

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss with Roi Crouch her proposal to provide consultant services for a library building capital campaign planning process and for fund development planning and implementation. During the discussion, some important components of such a process mentioned by Roi are:

  • Leadership, 15 to 25 people committed to the process for one to two years
  • Support shown by the city and county for the library building, operations, etc.
  • Having conversations with other entities in the community that are or will be seeking support for projects or operations in order to show that the overall good of the community is addressed, coordinated, by all. Some of these other local projects were discussed.

Roi talked about the possibility of doing an informal study, talking with half a dozen community people to help “test the waters” for feasibility, determine a timeline and an approach, etc.

Roi talked about her background and the highlights of her proposal. A question-and-answer period and general discussion followed.

11.     ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Ventgen, Secretary
