Coos Bay Public Library offers FREE computer and Internet-related classes and workshops. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required, unless otherwise noted below. Please call 541-269-1101 and select the reference desk or stop by to sign up!

Announcement: We will be restructuring our monthly workshops beginning in May. From now on there will be 2 monthly Drop-in Workshops open to questions about all devices (laptop computers, smartphones, tablets, and ebooks/audiobooks). Examples of programs offered in alphabetical order:
Beginning Computer Mouse (90 minutes) – This session is designed for users with little or no experience using computers. Users will go through a guided exercise that teaches the mouse and builds confidence. Tips will be offered to make using a computer easier. Classes are extra small to provide more individualized attention.
Beginning Gmail (2 hours) – Class is designed for users who wish to learn how to create and use a free Gmail account. Attendees will learn basic functionality including how to read, create, send, and delete emails. Class will also cover how to view and attach pictures or other files. Users will become familiar with Gmail terminology, proper etiquette, and other free email options. Attendees should be comfortable using a computer mouse and the Internet.
Drop-in Computer Lab (2 hours) - This drop-in lab is intended for those who own a computer or mobile device, and have questions about how to use it. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptop or device, but a few laptops will also be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Email Refresher Workshop (supervised practice, 2 hours) – In this workshop, users may refresh their email skills. This offering is designed to provide a low-stress opportunity to practice sending and receiving email, attaching and viewing pictures, working with email folders and developing email address books. There will be no formal lecture, but the instructor will be available to answer questions and offer suggestions.
Facebook Workshop (supervised practice, 2 hours) – In this workshop, users will get help with their Facebook accounts. It is a low-stress opportunity to address any difficulties users may be having with Facebook. There will be no formal lecture, but instructors will be available to answer questions and offer suggestions. Prerequisite: Attendees must have an active Facebook account and be able to access it. We will not be creating new accounts during this workshop, but we are happy to help you with your current Facebook account.
Introduction to Google Drive (90 minutes) - This class provides an overview of how to save files in "the Cloud" using Google Drive. Attendees will learn how to use Google Drive to create documents, perform basic word processing features, upload files, and share documents. Attendees should have an active Gmail account, and be comfortable using a computer mouse and the Internet.
Introduction to the Internet (2 hours) – This class is designed for computer novices who want to learn how to use the Internet. The class will cover the most important features of Internet browsers, and will discuss first steps and tips for easier use. This is an ideal chance to learn the most basic steps to using the Internet. Participants should be comfortable using a computer mouse.
Introduction to Pixlr (2 hours)- Pixlr is a FREE online photo editing site that is similar is scope to a basic Photoshop. It can be as easy or as complex as what you want to do with it!
Searching the Web with Google (90 minutes) - This class covers the basics of how to find information on the Internet using the Google Internet search engine. It includes information about Google's search engine, how to use it to search the Web effectively, and how to evaluate your search results. Participants should be comfortable using a computer mouse and the Internet.
Selling on Craigslist (90 minutes) - This class provides a basic overview of how to sell items on Craigslist. It will include a walk-through of the basic steps needed to sell your items. Attendees should have an active email account, and be comfortable using a computer mouse and the Internet.
Selling on Etsy-(1 hour) This class gives explains how to set up your own online store selling craft or vintage goods using etsy.com .
Wix for Business (2 hours)-This class teaches the basics of how to design a website using the Wix website building platform. It is directed toward business with a basic overview of some of the Wix website tools for businesses.
Wix for Personal (2 hours)-This class teaches the basics of how to design a website using the Wix website building platform. This is a more general overview for anyone who would want a website. The class will pay special attention resume formats and blog posting tools.
